Choosing The Best Car Thermometer

Many modern cars have a thermometer built in to the dashboard display.  Having a car thermometer can be a very good idea, and they really are handy tools for comfort and safety as well as several other beneficial features.  Have you ever been caught off guard by ice on the road when you did not even realize it was cold enough outside for ice to form?  That can be a dangerous mistake indeed.  There is no reason to be caught unaware again, if you have a digital readout that displays the temperature outside your vehicle.

Older automobiles that do not have a thermometer are great candidates for this popular customization item.  Many car owners choose to add this in to their vehicle for the functionality.  It is not just older cars that these items are purchased for, but modern cars as well.  Even vehicles with a built in sensor can still benefit from an add on unit.  An after market add on unit offers many advantages that even the built in thermometers do not typically offer.

Typical features of an add on thermometer include the ability to choose or even change the back light color. This is a popular option especially when trying to create an eye-catching dashboard display for a car. Nothing says custom like colorful displays above your steering wheel. Of course, if you have customized any aspect of your car, you want them to match, so being able to choose between popular dashes colors such as red, orange, and blue allows them to coordinate better.

Another reason these items are a popular addition to your vehicle is that you can choose the location of the display.  While the built in functionality for temperature reading and display is often in a shared location with other popular features such as miles per gallon and distance until empty, having a stand alone unit means you can always view temperature information without reaching through your steering wheel to cycle through your read outs while driving.

Stand alone thermometers offer both internal and external temperature readings, which is standard, but many of them also feature min and max temperature record tracking.  This can be a very fun way to see the extreme temperatures your car has endured.  Want proof that you survived the 120-degree weather of Death Valley?  Your external unit will let you prove it.  Very few built in units offer that feature.

For truckers, campers, and recreational vehicles, if you sleep in your vehicle you may also like the optional feature of an alarm and snooze that some units offer.  Again, this is something you will never find in a traditional dashboard feature list.  There are some definite advantages to an external unit.

With all of the great features that a car thermometer has to offer, you probably expect them to cost quite a bit, or at least more than you think they are worth.  You would be very surprised.  These units are an absolute steal and there is no reason not to buy one for your vehicle.  Take a moment to look at a few prices and you are sure to agree.
